Last updated: 1 July 2026. By using the LightSpeedRead website (lightspeedread.com), the LightSpeedRead Chrome extension, or the LightSpeedRead iOS app (together, the "Services"), you agree to these Terms of Use. The Services are operated by Silver Directive LLC ("we", "us"), which owns and operates the LightSpeedRead brand. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use the Services.
Using the Services
LightSpeedRead is a set of reading tools that display text one word at a time (RSVP speed reading). You may use the Services for your own lawful reading. You agree not to misuse them — for example, by attempting to break, overload, reverse-engineer for the purpose of cloning, or interfere with the Services or the systems they rely on, or by using them to process content you don't have the right to access.
You are responsible for the text, links, and files you choose to read. When you load an article from a link, you're representing that you're allowed to access that content.
Who can use the Services
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services, and if you're under the age of majority where you live, you may only use them with a parent or guardian's involvement. Only that adult may make a purchase. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information — if you believe a child under 13 has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Free and Pro tiers
Core reading is free. LightSpeedRead Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features (such as higher speeds, chunk reading, themes, and reading statistics). Which features are free versus Pro may change over time as the Services evolve; we'll aim to keep the free tier genuinely useful.
Subscriptions, billing & trials
Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly), sometimes with a free trial.
- iOS app. Purchases are made through the Apple App Store and billed to your Apple ID. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Manage or cancel in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions. Apple's standard terms (the Apple Media Services / EULA) also apply to purchases made through the App Store.
- Chrome extension. Purchases are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you can manage or cancel through the subscription-management link provided in the extension.
What auto-renewal means. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period and your payment method is charged the then-current price. The renewal is charged within 24 hours before the current period ends. Cancelling stops the next charge — it doesn't shorten the period you've already paid for, and you keep Pro until that period runs out.
Free trials. If a free trial is offered, it converts into a paid subscription automatically when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it expires. Starting a paid subscription during a trial forfeits the unused part of that trial. Trials are generally limited to one per person or Apple ID.
Price changes. Prices may change. We'll give you notice before a change affects you, in the manner the applicable store or law requires (Apple, for example, will ask you to consent to a price increase before it takes effect). A change never applies retroactively to a period you've already paid for, and you can always cancel rather than accept a new price.
Refunds. Except where required by law or by the applicable store's policy, payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds for partial periods. For App Store purchases, refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — request them through Apple. For extension subscriptions, contact us and we'll do what's fair.
Intellectual property
The Services, including their design, code, text, and the LightSpeedRead name and logo, are owned by Silver Directive LLC and protected by law. These terms don't give you ownership of the Services. The content you read remains yours (or its respective owner's) — we claim no rights over it.
Copyright complaints
We respect intellectual property. The Services display text that you supply or point them at — we don't host or publish a library of content. If you believe something the Services helped access infringes your copyright, contact us with enough detail to identify the work and the material, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised and that your notice is accurate. We'll respond appropriately, including removing material we control and, where relevant, terminating repeat infringers. Send notices to contact@lightspeedread.com.
Third-party services
Some features rely on third parties — for example, the article-from-link feature uses a third-party reading service, payments use Apple, Stripe, and ExtensionPay, and optional account sync uses Supabase. Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' terms, and we're not responsible for third-party services.
Disclaimers
The Services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Reading speed and comprehension results vary by person; we don't promise any particular outcome. We don't guarantee the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that article extraction will be perfect for every page.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LightSpeedRead will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the Services. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Termination
You can stop using the Services at any time and uninstall the app or extension. We may suspend or end access if you materially breach these terms or misuse the Services. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Services change. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and material changes may be highlighted in the app or extension. Continuing to use the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Apple App Store terms
If you get the iOS app from the Apple App Store, the following also applies: this agreement is between you and Silver Directive LLC only — not with Apple — and we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. We (not Apple) are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product-liability, legal-compliance, and consumer-protection claims, and for any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any US Government prohibited-parties list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida — except where applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own place of residence. Purchases made through the Apple App Store are additionally subject to Apple's own terms.
