- You can't take in much more per glance. Useful vision during a fixation reaches only about 14–15 letter spaces to the right — not a whole line. "Reading a page in a glance" isn't physically possible.
- Re-reading helps you understand. When studies block readers from glancing back, comprehension drops. Regressions aren't just waste; they support understanding.
- Trained "speed readers" trade accuracy for speed. Studies of speed-reading trainees find higher speed but lower comprehension — the classic speed–accuracy trade-off.
So what is speed reading, really?
